The Preston County Board of Education meeting was held August 24, 2026. The board approved a proposal to purchase four new buses from Worldwide EQ Heritage for $597,932, funded through state aid designated for annual bus replacement. It also approved a $7,500 agreement with the Preston County Extension Office for STEM/STEAM, agriculture, environmental awareness, and healthy-living programming. Other approved agreements covered teacher placements with Fairmont State University and Liberty University, student learning experiences with Preston Memorial Hospital, and student services or supplemental staffing through Genesis Youth Crisis Center, Be Well Kind of Place LLC, and Americ Healthcare Staffing; no dollar amounts were stated for those agreements.

The board reviewed ongoing facilities work, including completed parking-lot, gym-floor, lighting, and bathroom projects; replacement of 14 heating units at Bruceton School was expected to begin shortly. Estimates or vendor follow-up were pending for lighting upgrades, demolition at the South Preston site, retaining-wall work, and other repairs. The board also approved revisions to travel reimbursement rules and policies on virtual instruction and high-school promotion and retention. Members discussed upcoming public forums, career and technical education partnerships, policy review, and superintendent goals; no additional contract awards for the pending facilities work were reported.
