The Lincoln County Schools Board of Education held a special meeting on September 25, 2026, to approve the FY2026 year-end financial statement, which it approved by a 5–0 vote. The CFO reported about $3.2 million in general-fund balance, including restricted or committed amounts, and $6–7 million in bank accounts, while cautioning that the unrestricted balance was below $100,000. FY2026 revenue fell from $37 million to $35.5 million, while expenses rose by about $1.2 million. The CFO attributed the shortfall to declining enrollment, increased special-education needs, staffing costs, and payments for the Duval school consolidation; a remaining project balance is still due, but no amount was specified.

The board discussed limiting nonessential spending and hiring, reviewing expenditures with directors and staff, and considering staffing changes over the coming months. The CFO said 14–15 positions at the two consolidated schools had already been reduced for FY2027 and estimated the district had been roughly 70–80 positions over formula at the end of the prior year. No new contracts, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified. The board planned further financial discussion at its September 29 meeting.
