Meeting
Active Transportation Commission 6/20/2024
Body
City of Sacramento
Date
June 19, 2024
Jurisdiction
State & Local
The City of Sacramento Active Transportation Commission met on June 20, 2024. Staff reported that two applications previously submitted to the SACOG Carbon Reduction Grant Program—the Ninos Parkway Gap Closure Project and the Walking and Bicycling Wayfinding Project—were not awarded funding. Staff said the city disagreed with aspects of SACOG’s evaluation and planned to discuss the projects with SACOG. Staff also noted that accessible pedestrian signals on Alhambra were installed in response to community requests and funded through the ADA Citizen Request Fund; the project had not been brought to the Commission because the delivering group was unaware of that process.
The main agenda item was a workshop on the draft Streets for People Active Transportation Plan, including proposed citywide walking and bicycling networks and traffic-calming approaches. The item was received and filed, with no vote or contract award. Staff said that, after council adoption, network segments could be incorporated into the Transportation Priorities Plan to help pursue grants and coordinate improvements with developers. Commissioners and members of the public raised funding needs and urged the city to pursue available grants for safety projects, including small roundabouts, but no application or spending action was taken at this meeting.
