The City of Sacramento Active Transportation Commission met on February 16, 2023. Staff reported that the Downtown Mobility and Broadway Complete Streets projects were expected to begin construction in spring and finish by year-end; North Sacramento school-safety improvements were largely complete, with some work awaiting materials. The commission approved a report on the status of walking and biking for referral through the city’s review process and, ultimately, to the mayor and council. No construction contract awards or bid approvals were considered. The commission also approved its meeting minutes and selected its chair and vice chair for the year.

Staff presented the city’s electric-bike lending pilot, funded by a California Energy Commission grant. The city had acquired 30 electric trikes from Alta Cycling—10 assembled and ready, with 20 more on order—and planned to launch at the Colonial Heights Library. The Electric Bike Shop was to provide fleet maintenance and logistics; the pilot was planned for at least two years, with future funding undecided. On bicycle parking, staff described approximately $60,000 in annual funding, an estimated $400 per parking space, and about $20,000 in overspending this fiscal year due to rising material costs. Staff also outlined potential updates to bike-parking requirements for new development and explored installing racks on private property, but no related spending action was taken.
