🚚 Transportation 🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure Grants & Funding Physical Infrastructure

The City of Sacramento Active Transportation Commission met on August 15, 2024. Staff reported that the City received two grant awards for the Arden-Auburn Vision Zero Mobility Project and the Fruit Ridge Safety and Mobility Project and is working with the state on grant agreements. The City was not awarded grants for the Elder Creek project or its wayfinding effort and expects to bring recommendations for a future Caltrans grant round. Staff also reported an award associated with an affordable-housing project at 16th and T Streets; the related transportation work would add bike lanes and pedestrian improvements on S Street. No grant amounts were provided. Staff said the City is pursuing a pilot for publicly available secure bike parking and is continuing work on a construction detour policy.

The commission reviewed alternatives and public outreach for Phase 3 of the Two Rivers Trail, including railroad and highway connections; this was a discussion item with no vote. Commissioners also discussed draft recommendations for the commission’s 2024 annual report, including active-transportation infrastructure, safe routes to school, speed management, and quick-build bikeways. The prior recommendations carried estimated costs of about $10.7 million in year one and about $9 million recurring, with six full-time staff positions; commissioners discussed prioritization and presentation, but took no final action on the recommendations. The street design standards amendment was presented for comment, with emphasis on safety, slower speeds, bikeways, sidewalks, and tree canopy. No contract awards, bids, or purchasing decisions were identified.
