The Barnstable School Committee met on October 7, 2026. The committee unanimously approved the FY2028 capital improvement plan, prioritizing districtwide facility and systems needs, including masonry repairs, mechanical and plumbing upgrades, exterior-shell and window work, HVAC repairs, exhaust-fan replacement, and technology network and security-camera improvements. The superintendent also reported on MSBA accelerated-repair projects: estimated project amounts were $19.8 million for the high school and $4.24 million for the intermediate school, with a 55% state contribution. Schematic-design materials are due to MSBA October 22, with board review expected December 9; design and development depend on funding approval.
Town asset-management staff presented, for consideration but without a committee vote, combined heat and power proposals estimated at $800,000 for the high school and $550,000 for the intermediate school. The high-school project was estimated to save about $230,000 annually on utilities before debt service, or about $130,000 after debt service under the financing model described. The committee also approved a 1.0 FTE special-education teacher position at Barnstable Community Innovation School, increases to before- and after-care staff pay rates, and an accounts-payable warrant of $680,235.41; grants, gifts, donations, and other items were approved through the consent agenda.
