The City of Stevens Point Board of Park Commissioners met on October 7, 2026. The board voted to formally recognize a Friends group for the Parker Memorial Building and authorize Parks Department staff to work with its steering committee to refine a reuse and fundraising concept. The group proposed preserving and renovating the historic building in Gerke Park, with possible accessible restrooms, kitchen and concessions, and flexible community space. Members discussed a preliminary renovation estimate of $500,000 to $3 million, but no project design, construction, or spending was approved. The group must return with a more developed plan for board review before physical changes or specific fundraising commitments are approved; existing users and the park master plan are to be considered.
The Parks Director reported that work on the Don Friday press box is progressing, including completed window installation and ongoing siding work. The contractor had to reinstall the roof membrane because of an installation issue, at no additional cost to the city; the project is past its deadline, and liquidated damages apply. The Green Circle Trail is investigating repairs to four deteriorating sections of a retaining wall, with the Green Circle having paid for initial study work. Estimates and permitting are pending, and a repair—possibly involving shared costs—may come before the board for consideration in 2027. No contract award or repair funding decision was made at this meeting.
