The Lee County, Florida Tourist Development Council meeting on October 8, 2026, focused on tourism performance and implementation of the destination strategic plan. Staff reported preliminary August tourist-tax collections of about $2.7 million and discussed differing hotel and vacation-rental performance, airport passenger trends, and growth in lodging inventory. Council members requested follow-up information on hotel and vacation-rental inventory since 2019 and more detailed airport data, including flight availability and load factors; staff said they would seek reports from RSW and Punta Gorda airport representatives. The strategic-plan update covered marketing, visitor tools, placemaking, and tourism outreach. Staff cited a roughly $25,000 social-media campaign that generated 3.3 million impressions and said 42% of the annual media budget is directed toward summer. Members questioned whether a flat FY 2026–27 marketing budget is keeping pace with rising costs and tourism-tax revenues, but no budget action or vote was taken.
The meeting also recognized graduates of the Guest First hospitality training program and heard municipal updates on events and destination marketing. Members emphasized protecting tourist-tax funds for their intended tourism purposes. No contract awards, RFPs, vendor selections, bid approvals, or other procurement actions were identified; the only motion noted was to adjourn.
