The Historic Resources Commission of Lawrence, Kansas, met on October 15, 2026. No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or procurement activity were identified. The commission discussed a limited-scope ad hoc committee to review potential clarifications to Chapter 22 and a future committee to develop criteria and an application process for historic markers. Staff noted that a broader evaluation of the historic preservation program, including an equity-focused review, could require outside funding; no funding action was taken. The commission also approved a certificate of approval for emergency demolition of the severely deteriorated structures at 439 Illinois Street by a 5–0 vote. Staff said the city would initially pay for demolition and assess the cost to the property’s taxes for possible recovery.

The commission reviewed several preservation and development matters. For 700 New Hampshire Street, it approved exterior rehabilitation plans and design-guideline findings, including conditions to retain active storefront glazing and obscure storage-related features; it also forwarded comments on the proposed interior self-storage use to the Planning Commission and City Commission. The commission found the 1500 Leonard Avenue nomination eligible for local designation and directed staff to prepare a report and resolution. It continued the Central Watson Park landmark hearing to obtain additional information from the State Historic Preservation Office. Revised plans for a large Ohio Street development were approved with exceptions and administrative review of final materials, by a 3–1 vote with one abstention. These were preservation and land-use actions, not procurement decisions.
