Grant County Council budget discussion, Grant County Government, October 7, 2026: The council approved a $2,000 raise for eligible full-time employees, a 3% increase for part-time employees, and a $1,000 raise for council members and commissioners. Sheriff’s union employees and employees with state-mandated salaries were excluded. The council also approved a 6% increase in Purdue Extension contractual services, from $97,742 to $103,607, subject to the parties agreeing to a contract; approved a $3,180 annual maintenance-fee appropriation for the clerk’s perpetuation fund’s digitizing project; and approved a $511,000 general-fund transfer to central dispatch. The recommended merit pension appropriation of $1,039,661 was also approved.
The council approved multiple departmental budget adjustments, including highway overtime and longevity appropriations, and funding for 2027 adult community corrections despite a state funding gap; speakers said full funding was expected to be restored in 2028, but not retroactively. A proposed $67,000 jail treatment coordinator position was tabled pending further coordination and clarification. The council also tabled a request to grant central dispatch longevity pay pending review of the applicable ordinance. No new competitive solicitation or vendor award was identified; the Purdue Extension contract increase was the main service-contract decision.
