The City of Minnetonka Planning Commission held a public hearing on October 8, 2026, on a proposed comprehensive replacement of Section 300 of the city’s zoning ordinance. No recommendation or decision was made; the hearing was continued to November 5 for additional public input, with the City Council expected to consider the proposal later. Staff described proposed changes including consolidating low-density residential districts, reducing the minimum lot size from 22,000 to 18,000 square feet, allowing two-unit dwellings in more locations, setting impervious-surface limits, creating standards for 13 village centers, and adding sustainability and trail-amenity requirements for certain developments. Public comments focused especially on potential effects of duplexes on neighborhood character, housing affordability, existing homes, setbacks, and opportunities for neighborhood input. Commissioners requested further information on housing and pricing trends, ownership and affordability, potential neighborhood or corridor approaches, and lot/setback impacts.

No procurement activity, contract award, or purchasing decision was identified. Staff reported that the City Council had introduced a formal amendment to the Boston Scientific site master development plan for future Planning Commission consideration, and had approved tree-removal and front-yard-setback variances for an Edgewood property, with possible additional fees directed to the City’s tree fund. Commissioners also noted that the Youth Climate Action Fund has received at least three project applications; awards will be reviewed in November, from a total pool of $50,000, with a maximum award of $5,000 per project.
