The Taunton School Committee meeting, held October 7, 2026 (with a Finance and Law Subcommittee report), approved the use-of-facilities arrangements and FY26/FY27 bills payable: $143,390.65 for FY26 and $128,486.64 for FY27, the latter divided into a $967.50 voucher and a $127,519.14 balance. Members reviewed audit and grant updates: the district reported meeting net school spending, resolving nearly $3 million in prior grant deficits, and returning an expired, unspent $30,000 water-improvement grant while planning to seek a new grant for the alternative school. The warrants included payments for the FY25 audit, legal services, and other district expenses. The committee also approved substitute school nurse daily-rate increases from $150 to a stated $225, and approved non-union compensation and organizational changes; negotiations on other labor matters were authorized to continue.
The superintendent reported a city commitment of $600,000 for phased paving at the high school; the committee discussed the project, but the transcript does not clearly capture a formal vote on the funding. A proposed alternative-school van was not approved: three procurement quotes ranged from about $44,231 to $85,000, and the committee requested a principal presentation and additional vehicle details at a future meeting. The committee referred review of student information system alternatives for further study, including financial review, and referred development of a process requiring at least two comparable bids for future overnight trips. Field-trip requests, including a roughly $4,000 Ireland trip, were considered amid discussion of cost and vendor competition. A solar-flower installation was also reported as a no-cost initiative supported by the city, TMLP, and contractor Consigli.
