The Nash County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting was held October 8, 2026. The board approved awarding a five-year, as-needed pre-event disaster debris removal contract to DRC Emergency Services following an RFP evaluation of nine firms; work will be authorized through task orders, with no guaranteed work if no qualifying disaster occurs. The board also approved a final change order reducing Herring Ryvenbart’s water-main construction contract from $933,950 to $813,447.20, a $120,528.80 reduction. It approved Change Order No. 7 for the Med Park building renovation with Salisbury Moore, adding $78,881.71 and 30 days to the schedule, with funding to be reallocated from the courthouse renovation project. Staff reported that the Fellowship Church renovation for Parks and Recreation is out to bid, with bids expected to open October 27.

The board approved a Community Development Block Grant application requesting up to $950,000 for housing rehabilitation and reconstruction, and approved a $273,000 project budget for home repairs for low-income homeowners. It also approved project and budget actions supporting streamflow rehabilitation ($260,000 grant), Northern Nash water improvements (including transfer of $299,897 in ARPA interest earnings), and other capital-project funding reallocations. After discussion, the board adopted a resolution opposing the proposed sale of Rocky Mount’s water and wastewater systems to American Water for an indicative $174.6 million, citing potential effects on county water customers, rates, reliability, and economic development; the resolution requests consultation and protections but is not legally binding on the city.
