The Providence City Council Committee on Urban Redevelopment, Renewal and Planning met on October 8, 2026, and approved three commemorative resolutions. The committee approved, as amended, a resolution honoring the Providence Grays and requesting that the Department of Public Works coordinate the design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of one or more plaques at appropriate public locations on Messer Street, recognizing the team’s history and 1884 championship. The amendment changed “Providence’s West Side” to “Providence’s West End.” No cost, funding allocation, vendor, or procurement process was specified; the resolution will proceed to the full Council.

The committee also approved a resolution honoring Reverend E. Naomi Craig and requesting designation of the intersection of Hope and John Streets as Reverend E. Naomi Craig Memorial Square, with a certified copy sent to DPW for implementation. A resolution honoring former Councilman Robert C. “Bob” Clarkin was also approved. These actions concern public commemorations and potential physical installations, but no contracts or spending approvals were made.
