The Allegan County Board of Commissioners’ budget hearing and board meeting was held October 8, 2026 (the meeting metadata lists October 9). The public hearing on the proposed 2027 budget drew no comments. The board unanimously approved the 2027 General Appropriations Act. The administrator said the budget reflects previously discussed capital, personnel, and operating needs, including labor agreements, and clarified that the millage figures do not represent a board-initiated tax-rate increase. The stated total proposed millage was 6.94 mills. No specific new contract awards or purchasing approvals were taken up in the meeting.
The Road Commission’s informational report covered transportation funding and infrastructure work. Its 2025 revenue was reported as $48.212 million and expenses as $47.08 million, with about 95.6% of expenses going to road maintenance and construction. The new Neighborhood Roads Fund had been expected to provide about $6 million, but about $2.6 million had arrived to date. The Shelby maintenance garage is under construction: its February bid process received 13 bids, the low bid was under $6 million versus an estimate above $8 million, and the project remains under budget; it is being built without financing. The Road Commission also reported eliminating township match requirements for certain primary-road work and replacing its township revenue-sharing match system with a credit system. These were report updates, not board contract-award votes.
