The Meridian Arts Commission met on October 8, 2026. The commission heard a presentation from the Meridian Symphony Orchestra about its programs, venue and rehearsal-space needs, and requests for volunteer and fundraising support. The orchestra said it is performing and rehearsing at South Junior High in Boise this season after difficulties securing suitable Meridian school venues; no city funding or contract decision was made. The commission also discussed holiday events, gallery exhibits, and whether to move Art Week and the community art drop to spring 2027. Members considered ways to highlight performing arts organizations, with no decision taken on that proposal.

Staff reported that City Council had adopted the city’s public art plan and that contracts for artists’ work at the community center had been negotiated and executed, with installation planned for the facility’s opening; no contract amounts or vendors were stated. A task force will help prioritize potential FY2028 public art projects, including traffic boxes, park projects, a Cherry Lane Library project, and other sites, based on available resources. Staff also showed progress on 11 bird-inspired sculptures for the Linder Road corridor, which are being fabricated. The meeting’s recorded motions and votes concerned adoption of the agenda, approval of prior minutes, and adjournment; no procurement vote or new spending authorization was identified.
