Missoula County Board of County Commissioners public meeting, October 8, 2026: The commissioners approved a resolution of intention to create Rural Special Improvement District 8490 for Lolo water and wastewater improvements. The estimated project cost is about $7.3 million, including $1.75 million in secured federal EPA funding and approximately $5.5 million in proposed RSID bonds ($3.2 million for water and $2.3 million for wastewater). Planned work includes upgrades to two wells, replacement of aging water transmission piping, a backup generator, and wastewater-system equipment and facility improvements. The resolution passed; it initiates public notice and a property-owner protest period, rather than awarding a contract. Public Works expects to bid the project near the end of 2026, with construction planned for 2027 and assessments beginning in 2028. The 20-year principal assessment was estimated at $3,992.82 per parcel for water and wastewater combined, excluding interest; additional grant or loan-forgiveness funding may reduce costs.

The commissioners also approved the Handy family’s request to use a family-transfer subdivision exemption to create and transfer three parcels to family members. The meeting reported $2,338,412.34 in claims received during September 24–30, but did not identify specific purchasing actions associated with those claims. Other items included a parks stewardship proclamation and public comment about property-tax appeals.
