The City of Farmington Planning Commission met October 13, 2026, and unanimously approved a conditional use permit and two variances for a roughly 25,000-square-foot addition to the Farmington Police Department at 19500 Municipal Drive. The project, designed with BKV Group, includes indoor vehicle parking and operational, office, and community spaces. Kraus-Anderson has been brought on as construction manager at risk and is developing a maximum price for presentation to the City Council; no contract amount or construction award was stated. Approval is subject to sign and building permits, engineering comments, and an encroachment agreement with Northern Natural Gas. Construction is anticipated to extend through the end of the 2028 season.
The commission also voted to recommend that the City Council rezone a 3.48-acre Sunrise Ponds property from R2 to R3 and amend the comprehensive plan to allow development staging to move from 2030–2040 to 2020–2030. The change would enable a proposed 32-unit townhome development, but final platting and project details will be considered in a later process. Residents raised concerns about traffic, neighborhood character, and property values. No other procurement awards or spending decisions were identified.
