The City of Oak Harbor Arts Commission met on October 8, 2026. The commission discussed the city’s public-art maintenance plan, including a condition assessment scheduled for October 26. Staff reported a $1,500 quote from the prior installer for repairs to cracks in the three Kinnebrew totems; the work was described as necessary before installation and payable from existing funds. A previously approved $2,500 installation for the Gate of Inspiration was also reviewed. Staff will return with sandblasting and powder-coating options and more complete maintenance planning; no new spending approval or contract award was made at this meeting.

The commission also discussed developing a youth design contest for marina banners, utility-box art planned in phases of about three to four boxes annually, and possible memorial artwork for Bruiser, which members proposed prioritizing for further review. Staff previewed a proposal for commission involvement in the Agents of Discovery program and discussion of $15,000 in recreation-program support at a future meeting; no allocation was approved. The agenda and September 10 minutes were approved. Other project updates covered art-walk outreach, public-art signage, and potential future improvements to the interpretive center and Flintstone Car site.
