The City of Boulder Environmental Advisory Board discussed the City Council’s budget and funding for wildfire resilience at its October 7, 2026 meeting. Council passed the proposed budget on first reading without amendments, and there was no support to repurpose climate-tax dollars for wildfire work. Staff explained that public figures suggesting roughly $9 million in available revenue included other funds and grants that could not be redirected, and offered to share an analysis of the trade-offs of shifting available climate funds. The scale of investment under consideration was described as approximately $30–$40 million; possible future financing approaches include bonds, special improvement districts, and a revolving loan fund for homeowners. No specific contract award or procurement approval was reported.
The board also heard a proposal to strengthen collaboration between the Youth Advisory Board and other boards, potentially through a facilitated December meeting with small-group discussions and co-creation. The meeting format is still being developed, with further discussion planned for November.
