At its October 6, 2026 meeting, the Michigan City Common Council approved a $189,923.62 claims docket from the Riverboat Fund, including payment to Everwise Credit Union for six Dodge Durango police vehicles. The council also approved tax abatements for seven companies, representing more than $25.3 million in real-property investment and $44.5 million in equipment investment. Two separate resolutions waived late-filing requirements for Aquagenics’ abatements; both passed 7–2. The firefighters’ union contract was approved unanimously, though contract terms were not detailed. Salary-ordinance amendments were approved, including a $56,000–$62,000 field-supervisor position in the Street Department and a corrected associate-planner pay range. A proposed $181,800 budget reduction was carried over because the amendment had not been submitted in writing.
The council added a temporary data-center moratorium proposal to its agenda, but it was not formally taken up for enactment; the city attorney said it would receive a formal first reading at the next meeting. The proposal would pause approvals for new data centers, with stated exceptions, while zoning amendments are developed. The proposed Flock camera-system expansion was withdrawn by all sponsors and declared dead, so no additional appropriation was approved. The council also passed resolutions supporting the school referendum and a United Steelworkers petition regarding NIPSCO staffing and storm response; these were advocacy actions, not spending approvals.
