The Ames Planning and Zoning Commission met October 7, 2026, and recommended approval of an amended major site development plan for the Les Schwab Tire Center at 1410 Buckeye Avenue. The amendment increases the building from 6,400 to 8,200 square feet and adds a 16-by-25-foot tire-storage enclosure; the applicant cited operational needs. On a motion, the Commission approved the staff-recommended alternative with the condition that materials stored in the enclosure never exceed its height. No contract award, purchasing decision, or procurement spending was identified.
Staff previewed upcoming reviews of ten urban renewal plan amendments, for which the Commission will consider consistency with the comprehensive plan, and discussed state-law changes affecting property taxes and TIF. Staff also reported that City Council had approved the Ontario development rezoning on first reading after reviewing traffic projections, with the plat expected before Council the following week. These were planning and policy updates rather than procurement actions.
