The Keep Beaufort County Beautiful Board meeting was held October 8, 2026. Procurement and beautification updates included a Route 278 sign installation by SignPro Plus, which has design, funding, and DOT approval but is awaiting suitable weather. The board also discussed four additional signs; a draft vendor proposal and further DOT approvals are pending, with staff to continue procurement using the board’s existing budget. A purchase order for 179 crepe myrtles is being processed after the vendor’s certificate of insurance was received. The county will plant and maintain them. The board approved, by motion and second, allocating up to $7,000 from its planting budget for a flagpole and U.S. and South Carolina flags; the fire department is expected to raise, lower, and maintain the flags, with county staff handling procurement and installation.
Staff said purchases of items including metal cups and litter bags cannot proceed until the required purchase authorization forms are completed. The board reviewed a $7,000 H-tax award for litter cleanup during major events; possible uses, including cleanup around the air show, remain subject to the award’s application requirements and procurement coordination, and no spending decision was made. The board also approved participation in a regional litter-study subcommittee focused on producing a report, and agreed to a proposed 2027 meeting schedule change. No contract award was made during the meeting.
