The Town of Bluffton Historic Preservation Commission met on October 7, 2026. Its main item was a certificate-of-appropriateness request for a proposed house and carriage house at 36 Tabby Shell, submitted by Steven Stoers of Architecture 101 for the property owners. Commissioners discussed the design’s scale and vertical massing—particularly the carriage house—as well as materials and architectural details, including porch columns, railings, doors, and trim. By motion and vote, the commission tabled the decision. Commissioners Propes and Frasier are to meet with the applicant and staff to discuss revisions before the application returns to the full commission. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, or other procurement activity were identified.
The commission also received a historic-district monthly update, including signage and a garage demolition at 34 Thomas Hayward Street. Members encouraged public participation in the Oldtown master plan update through an online app.
