The City of Lakewood Public Safety Advisory Committee met on October 7, 2026. Members discussed concerns about high-speed e-bikes, electric motorcycles, and scooters on streets and in parks, including unsafe riding and enforcement challenges. The city attorney outlined approaches used by other jurisdictions, such as public education, restrictions on where vehicles may be ridden, and impoundment. The committee was asked to provide further input on which vehicle types and behaviors should be addressed; the city will return with more focused options, potentially including draft ordinance language. No ordinance or related spending decision was made. The committee also received a handout on block cameras for review before a future discussion.
Other business included public education about roundabouts, staffing the upcoming Truck and Tractor Day outreach table, and preparing the committee’s 2026 accomplishments and 2027 work plan for a City Council presentation. A free emergency-preparedness program was announced. The committee approved the August minutes and reapproved its chair and vice chair. No procurement activity, contract awards, vendor selections, or budget allocations were identified.
