The City of Solon Public Works meeting on October 7, 2026, reviewed infrastructure spending and several procurement-related items. For the proposed 2027 infrastructure program, staff added the Brackenberry Drive project, a contingency for unexpected costs on the Route 422 DDI project, and increased miscellaneous infrastructure funding from $300,000 to $500,000. Concrete and asphalt repair allocations were discussed at $2.5 million and $1.5 million, respectively. The committee approved moving forward with legislation for two Stonebridge Court overflow storm sewer easements at $1 each and a right-of-way and utility easement payment of $3,448 for the Somme–Petit intersection widening project. The committee also approved legislation to auction or salvage obsolete city vehicles and equipment, with proceeds going to the general fund. Staff reported that a change order of about $100,000 may be needed for the emergency road repair contract, but no action was taken.
The committee approved an emergency request to apply for an Ohio EPA Community and Litter Grant of up to $200,000 toward a hook-lift leaf unit; the grant requires a 25% city match, reimburses costs, and would only proceed if awarded. Legislation was also requested for inspection and maintenance agreements with PermaTex Inc. and Sam Aurora Reorganization (Dunkin’ Donuts). The proposed AT&T memorandum to waive city permit fees, deposits, and bonds remained pending while the city and company seek a project-specific arrangement without changing the city’s ordinances. Staff noted that bidding for the diverging-diamond project was underway, with bid opening expected October 29, 2026.
