The Grant County Community Corrections Advisor Board met on October 6, 2026. The board approved the August and September financial reports and discussed uncertainty about 2027 state grant funding. The department has asked county officials to cover employee benefits to avoid staff cuts; members expect more clarity shortly. They reported indications that state funding could be fully restored in 2028, representing about $72 million statewide, though the local impact and restoration of eliminated programs remain uncertain. The board also authorized designated officers to take necessary emergency actions if funding circumstances change before the next meeting, with the action to return for board review. The board received an update that a Justice Partners grant will provide funding for an eighth and final year.

The board approved a motion, with one nay, to explore a municipal vehicle-leasing program and bring information to the commissioners; this was not approval to lease or purchase vehicles. The department has $40,000 budgeted for a vehicle in 2027 and reported more than $3,000 in repairs to aging vehicles through September. Officials will compare leasing with purchasing, investigate costs and financing, and determine whether a bid process is required; no vendor was selected. Jail-alternative discussions covered possible reuse of the former D-home facility, but no reopening or construction spending was approved. Estimates discussed included $1.5–$2 million to prepare the facility and, if operated separately, substantial annual staffing, food-service, and medical costs. The board voted to dissolve the detention-center overcrowding work group and fold its issues into the jail-alternatives work group.
