The Putnam County Legislature’s October 6, 2026 meeting approved several spending and project actions. It authorized a $50,000 grant application for security upgrades at the Caldwell Senior Center; approved $1,280,400 in federal/state aid and a corresponding budget amendment for the Stony Ledge Avenue–Druville Road intersection project, planned as the county’s first roundabout on a county road; and approved a $275,000 transfer for electricity supply and delivery costs through December 31. A separate $100,000 transfer covered $30,000 for a District Attorney’s conference-room renovation and $70,000 for abatement and demolition at 125 Route 312. The Legislature also approved demolition of the county-owned building at 34 Gleneida Avenue and amended the resolution to direct General Services to issue, within 30 days of enactment, an RFP for a qualified consultant to gather community input on future uses of the property. The amended resolution passed unanimously.
The Legislature approved $380,152 to expand the existing People USA mobile crisis team, along with a matching budget amendment, and approved $247,700 in state mental-health aid. It adopted a 2025–2034 solid-waste management plan and approved an ADU property-tax exemption that phases in county taxes on newly created value over ten years, excludes short-term rentals, and applies to future permitted work. A charter amendment limiting salary increases for legislators and the county executive to once per four-year period, while changing the county executive’s salary provisions, passed 7–2. The Legislature also approved a family-defense grant application, but a Legal Aid representative later reported that the state had already closed applications; members discussed considering a process exception for future time-sensitive, no-match grants. A proposed $6.5 million allocation to towns and villages was discussed but not acted upon at this meeting.
