The Springfield Historical Commission met on October 1, 2026. It approved the minutes with a correction and approved the application for a six-foot black chain-link fence with privacy slats around dumpsters at 5 Madison Avenue. The commission continued the 205 St. James application to October 15, continued 77 Maple Street to July 15 (as transcribed), and continued the window-replacement application for 93 Garfield Street to October 15 so the applicant could provide more information about the proposed windows and colors.

The commission discussed Home City Development’s proposal for the Our Lady of the Rosary campus, which would preserve the church while demolishing the former school and rectory. The developer described a multi-site affordable-housing project of 51 units with an estimated total development cost of about $35 million; this was a project update, not a contract award or spending approval. The commission voted to conduct site visits and revisit whether to pursue a local historic district at its November 5 meeting. No procurement activity, contract award, or bid approval was identified. Updated new-construction guidelines are scheduled for consideration at the October 15 meeting.
