Research grant awarded to study the role of RANKL in muscle and bone loss in cachexia and to develop therapies to counteract these effects.

Description

This research project aims to elucidate the mechanisms by which RANKL-expressing tumors contribute to bone and muscle loss in cachexia and to validate therapies to mitigate these effects. Cachexia involves abnormal loss of body weight and muscle mass secondary to chronic diseases such as cancer, affecting up to 80% of cancer patients. The study will investigate RANKL's role in bone and muscle loss and test anti-resorptive therapies.
