Research project funded by NIAID to study active HIV-1 reservoirs in lung alveolar macrophages of HIV-1-infected individuals under cART, focusing on viral persistence, immune impact, and potential targets for HIV cure.
Description
This study aims to characterize active HIV-1 reservoirs in alveolar macrophages (AMs) in the lung, comparing proviral landscapes and viral RNA profiles between cART-naïve and treated individuals, assessing the impact of ongoing viral transcription on immune functions and cell survival, and determining the role of these reservoirs in viral rebound and replication. The research will utilize advanced molecular, cellular, and immunological methods with a well-characterized human cohort.
