Research project funded by the National Institute on Aging to develop a model prescribing daily step counts to improve body composition and reduce cardiometabolic risk in overweight/obese adults across age groups over 8 months.

Description

This research study proposes to quantify the relationship between daily step counts and body composition/cardiometabolic disease risk factors in young, middle-aged, and older adults who are overweight/obese, and to then employ that relationship in prescribing step counts to achieve predictable changes in body weight and composition, and cardiometabolic risk status. The project aims to develop a regression model to prescribe physical activity (daily step counts) for achieving specific target body weight and improving cardiometabolic risk in adults over eight months while eating ad libitum.
