This NIH-funded research project aims to study the relationship between NAAG levels and memory deficits in schizophrenia patients and healthy adults in mid- to late-life, using neuroimaging and neurochemical analysis to inform treatment development and clinical trials.
Description
The proposed study will determine the link between N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate (NAAG) levels in the brain, memory performance, and memory task-related brain activity in patients with schizophrenia and healthy adults in mid- to late-life. Doing so will provide important insights for development of treatments aimed at modulation of NAAG levels to improve memory deficits in patients with schizophrenia and related memory disorders in mid- to late-life, as well as identify neuroimaging biomarkers for future relevant clinical trials.
