Research project investigating the role of oxidatively damaged mitochondrial DNA in causing inflammation and degeneration in intervertebral discs, aiming to identify new therapeutic targets.

Description

This project will explore a novel mechanism of sterile inflammation in intervertebral disc and its association with disc degeneration by investigating the role of oxidatively damaged mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in inflammation. The studies aim to elucidate how cGAS/STING activation by oxidized-mtDNA contributes to inflammation in disc, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets for disc degeneration.
