Description

The Imaging Core for the “Healthy Aging and Senile Dementia” study is responsible for all aspects of brain imaging performed in the Program Project Grant. This includes oversight of participant safety during imaging visits, clinical review of imaging for incidental findings, communication of imaging results, and quantitative post-processing. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and amyloid and tau positron emission tomography (PET) protocols are compatible with CLARiTI and SCAN, which are two key harmonization initiatives across Alzheimer Disease Research Centers (ADRCs) in the US. A new element added with the grant renewal is post processing of tau PET using Siemens’ SyngoVia clinical product, which is FDA 510K cleared, and will allow for better translation of the results from the Biomarker Cohort to clinical populations. Similarly, a Centiloid value is now provided for all amyloid PET scans. Quantitative MRI, amyloid PET, and tau PET results will be provided to Core C: Data Management & Biostatistics in the form of data freezes for distribution to the Projects. When applicable, Core E: Imaging can also release images and reports back to the participant’s clinical team for ongoing clinical care, following established HIPAA-compliant workflows.
