The award funds research to explore lipoprotein lipase in microglia as a potential therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease, focusing on pharmacological activation to slow disease progression and understanding underlying mechanisms.

Description

This project aims to investigate the role of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) in microglia as a therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study will use microglial-specific knockdown mice and AD susceptible mice to evaluate whether pharmacological activation of LPL can halt AD progression. The research includes metabolic imaging and 'omics approaches to understand LPL-dependent mechanisms in microglia and lipoprotein processing, especially in APOE4 carriers.
