Research project studying the role of rostromedial tegmental nucleus GABA neurons in opioid use disorder to identify new treatments for veterans and the general population.

Description

The proposed studies will combine electrophysiological, behavioral, molecular, and cell type-specific techniques in mice to elucidate the contribution of the rostromedial tegmental nucleus to the acute effects of opioids in the brain and the chronic effects of opioid self-administration. The mechanistic understanding gleaned from this work will help identify novel therapeutic targets to treat opioid use disorder in veterans and the general population.
