Research grant to study metabolic responses to muscle contraction in a 3D engineered muscle tissue model from aged human cells to understand sarcopenia mechanisms.

Description

Aging associated muscle loss, known as sarcopenia, involves dysfunctional mitochondria, altered metabolism, and reduced muscle function. Exercise and resistance training are among the few therapies that may slow or reverse sarcopenia. This project aims to establish a 3D engineered muscle tissue model from aged human cells to study metabolic responses to muscle contraction and identify molecular mechanisms involved in sarcopenia.
