Research project funded by NHLBI to study necroptosis pathways in lung transplant recipients and donors to reduce primary graft dysfunction and improve transplant outcomes.
Description
This project focuses on addressing primary graft dysfunction (PGD) in lung transplantation by elucidating mechanisms of cellular necroptosis in native and donor lungs during ischemia-reperfusion injury. It hypothesizes that RIPK3-dependent necroptosis drives PGD through autocrine necroptosis in recipient lungs and mitochondrial ROS-induced necroptosis in donor lungs, aiming to develop targeted interventions to reduce PGD incidence and improve post-transplant outcomes.
