A virtual clinical trial to validate the first evidence-based therapy toolkit tailored for Deaf individuals with AUD and trauma, addressing unique language access needs.

Description

This project proposes the first-ever full-scale psychotherapy trial conducted in the Deaf community to develop and test a Deaf-accessible therapy toolkit integrated with the Seeking Safety treatment protocol for alcohol use disorder (AUD) and trauma. The study aims to enroll 144 Deaf adults with recent PTSD and problem drinking into a national, virtual clinical trial comparing Signs of Safety, treatment as usual, and a no-treatment control, with outcomes including alcohol use frequency/quantity and PTSD severity.
