Description
A project to add a nationally representative cohort to the existing Agincourt sample of the Health and Aging in Africa: Longitudinal Study in South Africa (HAALSI) Program, enabling the first nationally representative study of cognitive function and dementia in South Africa. The study will collect a broad array of health and socio-economic measures from a national cohort and will be the first from a Sub-Saharan African country included in the international family of Health and Retirement Studies (HRS). The project aims to conduct a national Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP) study, measure prevalence of cognitive impairment and dementia, investigate cognition-SES gradients, and disseminate data for research use.
