Research project funded by NIAAA to study brain reward and stress circuit interactions in alcohol withdrawal anxiety, aiming to identify new treatment targets for alcohol use disorder.
Description
The goal of the proposed research is to test the role of interactions between brain stress and brain reward circuits in mediating behavioral dysregulation during alcohol withdrawal. The experiments will test the effects of chronic alcohol on specific brain reward and stress circuits, and their role in mediating withdrawal-induced anxiety-like behavior. This work aims to advance understanding of the neurobiology of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and identify new treatment targets.
