A clinical study funded by NIAID to investigate metabolic syndrome in tuberculosis patients in Tanzania, aiming to improve dual-disease management and support career development of Dr. Yosra Alkabab.

Description

The proposed clinical study will characterize metabolic profiles of people with newly diagnosed tuberculosis, determine the dynamics of those metabolic profiles during tuberculosis treatment, and identify risk factors for persistence of metabolic disorders, towards a goal of eventually developing better approaches to dual-disease management. An integrated set of career development activities will prepare Dr. Yosra Alkabab to lead future work as an independent physician-scientist and contribute to improving human health through interventions that address the intersection of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
