Description

The project aims to leverage the collective strengths of six NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers to create minority patient cancer models and characterize targeted treatment responses to stomach and lung tumors. The initiative focuses on understanding cancer health disparities and developing effective treatments in patient-derived models for clinical translation. The project comprises two research projects: 1. Advancing gastric cancer precision medicine in Latinos: Developing therapeutic regimens for the complex Latino gastric cancer subtype, studying resistance mechanisms, identifying biomarkers, and assessing ancestry influence. 2. Targeting EGFR mutant lung tumors: Focusing on lung cancer in minority populations, especially in females of Latino and Asian ancestry, to develop targeted therapies and overcome resistance. Research focus areas include cancer health disparity, molecular subtypes, targeted therapy, precision medicine, and racial and ethnic minority health. The project involves multiple investigators and centers, aims to establish at least 120 new patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), and emphasizes diversity, health disparities, and translational research.
