A research project funded to study the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists on alcohol-related behaviors using advanced imaging techniques to understand neural mechanisms.

Description

This project aims to evaluate the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists on alcohol-related behaviors, focusing on their impact on alcohol subjective/interoceptive effects and alcohol reinforcement. The study will utilize a screening pipeline to assess three compounds: semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide. Functional MRI and fiber photometry will be used to investigate neural activity in the salience network during alcohol and sucrose self-administration procedures.
