Description

This project investigates the physiological changes in the brain caused by head impacts (HI) and their relation to memory impairments and dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease. The research focuses on the effects of high-frequency non-damaging HI and compares it to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Preliminary data indicates that repeated head impacts cause adaptive responses in excitatory synapses, leading to long-term impairments in learning and memory. The goal is to determine if chronic synaptic dysfunction can be reversed to restore forgotten memories.
