The project aims to measure muscle mass in postmenopausal women, comparing cancer survivors and controls, to understand low muscle mass's causes and effects, using innovative remote measurement and machine learning for risk prediction, supporting interventions for older cancer survivors.
Description
This project will provide the first-ever direct measure of muscle mass in a large sample of community dwelling postmenopausal women using the D3-creatine method, a highly accurate and scalable measure of muscle mass that can be carried out remotely (at home). This novel approach will be used to compare the antecedents and consequences of low muscle mass in cancer survivors and age-matched cancer-free controls. This research will contribute to the development of public health recommendations and intervention strategies to prevent low muscle mass and associated adverse health outcomes in older and long-term cancer survivors.
