This project studies the development and capacity of episodic future thinking (EFT) in early childhood, using behavioral and neural measures to understand memory retrieval and planning processes, aiming to identify children at risk for cognitive delays and improve interventions.

Description

The proposed research aims to contribute to public health by establishing the developmental time course of the mechanisms, stability, and limits of episodic future thinking, using both behavioral and neural measures during early childhood development. Understanding the structure and capacity of typically developing episodic future thinking may allow for earlier identification for children at risk for possible cognitive and educational delays, since episodic future thinking is related to both planning and academic success. Further, such advances in prediction may allow for the development of more efficient interventions.
