Award to CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY for acquiring an Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer to advance proteomics research supporting multiple biomedical fields including neurodegeneration, virology, and cancer.

Description

The Center for Proteomics and Bioinformatics (CPB) and its Proteomics and Small Molecule Mass Spectrometry (PSMMS) Core will acquire and operate an Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer with ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography for structural and quantitative proteomics and other protein/phosphoprotein research. This project aims to support research in HIV pathogenesis, antigen epitope mapping, stress and fitness biomarkers, cardioprotection, insulin resistance, cancer chromatin remodeling, early cystic fibrosis biomarkers, and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and white matter pathology. The project will enhance proteomic sensitivity and resolution, enabling deep sequencing and post-translational modification detection, supporting studies across virology, cardiology, metabolism, pulmonary function, neurodegeneration, and cancer.
