Research project funded by NIAMS to study disease mechanisms in women with dermatomyositis, focusing on underrepresented groups, especially Black women, to develop biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
Description
This project aims to establish the Southern California Dermatomyositis Disease Network (SCAD), a community registry focusing on underrepresented women in medicine. It will investigate microvascular disease's role in ILD progression using advanced imaging and tissue analysis. Additionally, the project will assess PON1 activity and immune markers in serum to understand disease activity and treatment response. The work seeks to fill research gaps in women, particularly Black women, and develop biomarkers and therapeutic targets for DM and associated ILD.
